This is a call for lovers of music and nature. Imagine an invitation to attend classical concerts right under the Brooklyn Bridge, with a wonderful view of downtown Manhattan. Bargemusic is an on-dock boat that serves as a music chamber for a variety of musicians and their thousands of music admirers. Whether it’s a rainy summer day or a sunny winter one, you’ll delight in the wonders of nature, the urban beauty of New York City, and the stimulus good music provides.
The inside of the barge is antique and wooden; it creates the perfect acoustics for the music to penetrate the deepest fibers of an audience. Its coziness makes you feel comfortable and at home. At the same time, the quality of the performance and the professionalism of the orchestra in such a small setting give the impression of a very elegant private concert. Under your feet, the East River flows slowly, making you feel a bit of vertigo. Behind the orchestra, Manhattan stands as a background for melody.
As the concert advances, the vibrations created by the music fill up the chamber and take your breath away. Once a piece reaches crescendo you can literally feel the music moving the boat on the water. This sensation, plus the wonderful view and the effect of the sun-rays coming from different directions, reflecting on the buildings across the river, create the most long lasting surreal artistic experience. When you come off the boat, you’ll still feel you’re floating.
“Behind the orchestra, Manhattan stands as a background for melody.”
Created by violinist Olga Bloom, Bargemusic has been delivering a combination of beauty and music since 1977 like no other venue. Its uniqueness is entertaining and accessible to all. They offer a minimum of five concerts weekly at very reasonable prices. They also have community and free performances for everyone to attend. If you’re looking for a whole day of entertainment, the neighborhood is perfect for sightseeing and picture taking. There are many quality restaurants in the area as well and right next to Bargemusic there’s the Ice Cream Factory.
You can get here by train, but if you want to have an East River Experience you should consider taking the East River Ferry, it’ll add a finishing touch to the exquisiteness of it all.WHAT: Bargemusic WHERE: Fulton Ferry Landing near the Brooklyn Bridge Brooklyn, New York 11201
