English Charm And Hospitality At The Kennard Hotel
The Kennard Hotel is much more than any ordinary hotel to stay at between days of gallivanting the streets of Bath; it is a gem not to be missed while you emerse yourself in this quaint little town in England. Owners Giovanni and Mary Baiano take the upmost pride in keeping the Georgian Townhouse in prime condition, from the decorations, the perfectly manicured garden to the traditional English breakfast, the Kennard is a complete experience in itself.
We arrived early and were greeted with smiles and warm tea, giving our weary New York feet an immediate relief of the heavy burden of carrying our non-ergonomic luggage all about England. We sat in one of the comfortable reading nooks, impressed by the lovely view of the delicate floral life and greenery just outside in the garden. Perusing through the Kennard’s extensive collection of books about Bath, we sipped on a freshly made cup of English Breakfast tea with two lumps of sugar and nibbled on shortbread cookies. We could have happily stayed there all morning, basking in pure caffeinated pleasure and loving how gracious our hosts were – but of course we had an itinerary and I’m sure not one to be late for a tour of the Jane Austin Museum down the way.
After a full day of museums, gardens, and English tea followed by dinner and cocktails, the Kennard was a most appreciated short walk from the Pulteny Bridge and The Abbey where there are many restraunts and pubs.
Our room was a refreshing taste of English propriety, everything perfectly in it’s place. Any NYC girl would agree with Sonia Rykiel, “At hotels, you are an actress. Absolutely. You can do what you want. Go where you want. I love my home too. But I love to arrive in a hotel. They have books, chocolate, food. I put things in the little refrigerator.” At the Kennard Hotel one definately experiences all the little things that make staying at the Georgian Townhouse a vacation in itself – Do make sure to enjoy the Full English Breakfast in the dining room, we found it to be most delightful!
