Free Outdoor Classical Concerts In Central Park

Summer in NYC certainly has no shortage of free outdoor concerts, filled to the brim with loud performers and even louder patrons.  If you’re looking for something a bit more, shall we say, low key, I suggest checking out the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts in Central Park.

Naumburg Bandshell

Located at the Naumburg Bandshell just south of the 72nd Street cross-drive and smack in the middle of the park, these concerts are held on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm.  The acoustics make for magical, magical music, and the scene is generally a mellow after-work crowd, sprinkled with tourists, seeking out a bit of harmony to make for a pleasant evening.  Some folks sit in the rows of seats while others spread out picnic blankets and indulge in goodies from their Whole Foods bags.

The New York Virtuoso Singers

Hanging out with my chihuahua at a recent performance by The New York Virtuoso Singers, it was easy to see how this could quickly become a favorite NYC tradition.  Listen to their version of “When You Wish Upon A Star” here.

Dates for Summer 2012 concerts are as follows:

  • Tuesday, July 10, 2012
    The Knights (Program)
  • Tuesday, July 24, 2012
    The Knights (Program)
  • Tuesday, August 7, 2012
Lara St. John & Friends (Program)

This is what I really enjoy about NY, it is so lively in the summer. I mean NY is always running, but summer is the only time when you see parents out with the kids, these small plays, musical groups, skits.. Trust me it is the finest place on earth in Summers!
