Rockstar New Yorker: Duane Reade VIP Blogger Sammi Richardson
Like any red-blooded New Yorker, my local Duane Reade is pretty much the lifeblood of my NYC existence. What other place can I go to stock up on toilet paper, frosted animal crackers, and the latest Essie nail polish color? I’m only a little embarrassed to admit that the majority of my grocery shoppinng even happens here. It’s the one-stop shop that holds everything I could possibly want (or fit) in my NYC apartment.

A few weeks ago, I noticed that Duane Reade’s Twitter feed began announcing rockstar DR VIP Bloggers. This immediately peaked my interest…after all, if you’re blogging for the store that basically epitomizes NYC, you must be a pretty awesome New Yorker. I was thrilled to be able to catch up with DR VIP Blogger Sammi Richardson.
How did you become a Duane Reade VIP Blogger?
I saw a Duane Reade VIP Blogger Contest advertised back in January 2012 on their Facebook page. I’ve been blogging for almost 3 years now and the opportunity to write for a gigantic corporation such as Duane Reade was so exciting! I’ve been shopping at their store since I’ve lived in NY and they are my go-to place for basic necessities. I was instructed to write an essay based on “Why I feel I should be chosen as a Duane Reade Blogger.” I was chosen along with 20 other applicants! I’ve met other wonderful bloggers from the experience and it’s something I will definitely remember forever!
What’s one item from Duane Reade that you can’t live without?
Their Nice! Chocolate Covered Grahams. So delicious!
If you had to pick one “hidden gem” in the city that everyone should know about, what would it be?
Union Square Park. I absolutely love going there. There’s always something being sold, someone performing, or just general entertainment going on. I love to visit a few times a month, especially in the summertime.
Where’s your go-to NYC spot that you take all your out of town guests?
Shopping in SoHo. So many cute boutique shops and great restaurants.
What does being a New Yorker mean to you?
It means more than words can truly explain. I grew up in the South but had parents from New York, so I’ve always been exposed to a New York “world”. I grew up visiting NY as I had family in the city. I moved to NYC 6 years ago and never looked back. Being a New Yorker means culture and entertainment at my disposal. I feel very lucky to be able to live in this wonderful city.
