Entre Deux Mers – Weekend Wine Pick by Astor Wines & Spirits

Used York City has the perfect wine for your hot summer weekend thanks to our friends at Astor Wines & Spirits, one of NYC’s best places to find the perfect drink!

Astor’s head wine buyer Lorena Ascencios suggests that you pick up a bottle of Entre Deux Mers (“between two oceans”) by Château Haut Reygnac – a 2010 white Bordeaux for a very reasonable $10… It’s a Sauvignon Blanc – crisp, floral, dry and exceedingly delicious with seafood (notably, fish, herbs and fennel), made from vines planted 35 years ago, adding tremendous body on the palate. The vines are well-situated, facing the sun-saturated south to southwest. Vinification is classic, with 100% stainless steel on this Bordeaux white.

As usual, we make it easy at UsedYorkCity with the BiWeekly Bottle’s very own wine grid, where you can find a wine that is…

- A bit fruitier: Prophet’s Rock – This fruity, palate-pleasing Pinot Gris from the South Island shows a dazzling array of flavors: pear, peach, citrus peel, quince, and spice notes play off the underlying minerality. The freshness, aromatics, and concentration of this wine allow it to harmonize with a diverse range of Asian and Pacific Rim dishes: fish, seafood, salads, and white meats.

- A bit dryer: Dorigo – A sophisticated and dry white wine from the fascinating wine region of Friuli, made from the Ribolla Gialla grape. Floral and exotic, with good acidity to liven the senses, this is delicious with seafood, chicken, and other delicate dishes.

- A bit of a splurge: Mâcoin-Cruzille – The vineyard Cruzille, a viticultural space where cellphones won’t work, carries a magical aura that makes one think time has stopped. The Chardonnay for this wine is 50 to 80 years old and grown on calcareous clay soils on slopes from 250 to 300 meters high. The certified organic grapes are hand harvested and matured in used 228–liter barrels. An absolutely elegant Mâcon, ultimately terroir–driven with a unique concentration and depth that separates it from the rest of the pack.

- A bit easier on the wallet: l’Enclos – This domain is best known for their Armagnacs but also makes this unbelievable dry white wine that’s not to be missed. A lively white wine with meyer lemons and lime aromas. It comes from the Gascony region of France.
