This contest has officially ended. A huge New York thank you to all who participated, and congrats to our winner, A.V.! Stay tuned for more exciting UsedYorkCity.com giveaways!
With the fast approaching holiday season comes a slew of dinners and parties. Be prepared on the fly with our guide to 5 NYC inspired hostess gifts. Bonus: They won’t set you back more than $25 a pop.
1. Bodega Flowers
Quick, easy, and seasonal, a beautiful bushel can be picked up at your corner bodega for $10.00 or less. You’ll quickly get bumped up from dinner guest to VIP.
2. NYC Map Playing Cards
Who doesn’t love a great game of poker after a few bottles of wine? Don’t make your hostess go scrambling in the junk drawer for cards, delight her with a new set that pays homage to the city she loves so much. We’re fans of this set by Muji ($12.50), which can be placed together just so to create a map of the Big Apple.
3. The Morning-After Breakfast
The last thing your hostess wants to be thinking about after entertaining a room full of New Yorkers for the evening is the next morning. Make her smile by stopping by your favorite bakery and picking up an assortment of croissants, scones, and muffins to help her recover from the festivities.
4. The Home T
A dinner party hostess no doubt takes great pride in her home, and sharing it with others. Celebrate this pride by gifting her a NY Home T-shirt ($25.00). Read on to find out how you can get your’s for FREE!
5. Metrocard
What better way to tell your hostess thank you than by giving her a roundtrip Metrocard ($4.50) with a note attached saying, “Next time, dinner is on me.”

I once received ‘Breakfast in Bed’ basket once, complete with pancake batter, scone mix, coffee mugs and a gorgeous serving tray with legs. It is still one of the best gifts I was ever given!
Thanks!

And who doesn’t love the promise of a free meal?:-) Thanks for stopping by!
Best host gift I’ve ever gotten was a Quailman costume with a matching Quaildog costume for my pup. (Hope you know I’m referring to the cartoon, Doug. lol)
Love it! Was it a Halloween party, or are you a big Doug fan?:-)
Both! My dog wasn’t too thrilled about wearing it though. He prefers his birthday suit. Lol
Haha, I can imagine! I have a chihuahua who actually enjoys wearing clothes, as it wards of the small dog shivers!:-)
I have a chihuahua as well. He’s incredibly small, but thinks he’s the size of a great dane!

And let’s not forget the incredible size of their adoration and loyalty for their parents!:-)
A penis-shaped cake pan. We were able to make plenty of risqué cakes with it, and even used it to hold a pasta dish when we ran out of bowls at a dinner party. The more wine you’ve had, the more amusing it becomes.
Hysterical! Talk about a good conversation piece:-)
I keep a box of Trader Joe wine in my closet. Whenever I need a gift (hostess or otherwise) I take a bottle and throw a bow on it!
Brilliant! If I had enough closet space, I would so steal your idea!:-)
NYC is my favorite place in the WORLD. I love all of these things, and would wear that shirt proudly!
the best hostess gift I ever received was a dachshund statue… (I love dachshunds). the most FUN hostess gift? a small round velour pillow, shaped like an olive! (I love martinis…)

Thanks so much for spreading the word:-)
Aww, those both sound super adorable, and clearly your guests know you well! Thanks for sharing!
Dessert!!! The quickest way to win my heart.
Guests that come bearing dessert are definitely on my list of “sweeties”, too;-)
Best hostess gift ever received? A bottle of wine from one of my guest’s recent travels to Italy.
One can never go wrong with wine:-)
Those Map Playing Cards are sweet! I subscribed and am leaving a comment, but don’t live in NY so I’ll understand if I’m not eligible to win. Just wanted to show my support anyways!

The best hostess gift I’ve ever received…
My guest going home.
Their stay was considerably longer & more challenging than any previous.
I was simply thrilled to have my own space back
>500 sq ft isn’t enough to share w a non significant other for any length of time
Spoken like a true New Yorker:-)
The deck of cards is cool. The metro card is practical. The tee is laundry. The bread basket is appetizing. The flowers are adorable.
…I’m guessing you’re going with adorable?:-)
Oh my gosh, I LOVE those playing cards of NYC. That would be perfect for my g-ma. I think the best hostess gift I’ve ever received is a beautiful orchid that our pastor gave us once when we treated her to dinner. It’s still alive today, years later (just living with my mother-in-law since the trip to China likely wouldn’t have been in its best interest!).

What an amazing gift! I had no idea orchids lived so long…will have to remember that for future dinner parties, thanks!
