Kick 2013 Off Right With NYC’s Fitness Fight Camp + Giveaway

This contest has officially ended.  A huge New York thank you to all who participated, and congrats to our winner, Heather E.!  Stay tuned for more exciting UsedYorkCity.com giveaways!

A glimpse at my workout routine may have you believe I have commitment issues, seeing as how I bounce from studio to studio.  This, my friends, is not because I’m a superb athlete who enjoys cross-training (hardly), and certainly not because I suffer from massive ADHD (I promise).  Why is it then, in 2012 alone, I have boomeranged from some truly awesome workouts (Toughmudder training, hot yoga, Dancehall class), to some truly awful adequate workouts (capoeira, Central Park bootcamp, spending a million dollars on a gym membership I never used, ahem, Equinox)?  Because, dear readers, UsedYorkCity is all about discovering the best of the city and bringing it to you, and this includes the best places to punish those hamstrings and harden those glutes.

I crawl through mud for you, New Yorkers!

My latest in workout adventures was one exclusively for the ladies: Fitness Fight Camp, which absolutely deserves a place in your workout circuit.  Combining kickboxing and Muay Thai and marrying them into a bootcamp of sorts, trainers Laurel Holloway and Ben Hernandez will definitely give you a kick-ass workout that will have you crawling to your Chinatown massage therapist the next morning.  No seriously, it’s not that scary.  (But don’t forget your water bottle.)

Laurel & Ben

I attended a relatively small class, which gave me lots of one-on-one practice time with Laurel.  And boy, does that girl pack a punch!  If I ever decide to do personal training, this is the lady I’ll be calling.  I mean, check out that 6 pack:

I got to revisit skills learned from Billy Blanks’s Tae-Bo of my high school years (who else remembers ol’ Billy?!), by dusting off my jab, upper cut, and full range of fancy kicks.  I was a little lot rusty, but like riding a bike, it comes back to you.  The class was held in a Midtown studio, but when the weather is nice they hold classes in the lovely Central Park.

I’m so pumped about spreading the Fitness Fight Camp love around, we’re partnering with Fitness Fight Camp to offer a giveaway.  One lucky lady will get a $75 gift card good for 5 FFC classes.  Talk about kicking your New Year off right!

Try a new restaurant every time I go out to eat rather than going to the same old ones.

Jess, you should try James Sherman’s Krav Maga classes – great workout that teaches you self-defense techniques as well. They run discounts for new clients on groupon frequently.

My 2013 resolution is to finish my dissertation. Do share yours as well.

    Happy New Year!

My resolution is to run a 5K by April. Its huge because I am currently the least fitness oriented human ever – let alone athlete or experienced runner. I cannot wait to embark on this road!

FFC sounds amazing! I’m afraid my workouts have been similarly unfocused this year. Must do better next year! Great post, Jess! Thanks for sharing.
