Luxury Spas For Less When You Book “Last Minute”

New York is chock full of the best of the best when it comes to spas, salons, and fitness studios…but let’s get real: I refuse to pay $300 for a massage at a five star hotel when I can jet on down to Chinatown and have 60 minutes for $45.  But that’s not to say I wouldn’t love to give a bougie spa a try…and now there just may be a way you can.

SpaFinder Wellness recently launched in NYC a new service that lets customers schedule same-day and next-day appointments at deeply discounted prices, Last Minute.  The brilliance behind the plan was in recognizing that 30-60% of appointment slots go unfilled each day, so the site searches a network of more than 20,000 businesses to offer discounts for unbooked appointments, 30-80% off their ticket value.  And unlike our favorite coupon sites like Groupon and LivingSocial, there’s no annoying hastle of trying to get someone on the phone, only to find out the next avaialable appointment isn’t for 6 months (we’ve all been there.)  With Last Minute, you make the rezzie right on the computer, get a confirmation email, show up the same or next day, and you’re done!

I gave Last Minute a try with a facial from Sothys Spa.  What I loved best about the process (I mean, besides the actual facial, which was heavenly, to say the least), was that the site lets you filter services and classes by neighborhood, category, and time slot.  The last thing I wanted to do was waste time, only to find an appoitment that was available in Tribeca smack in the middle of my work day, cause that just wouldn’t be feasible.  But, I could easily find something located right in the vicinity of my work, during hours that I would be free.

Will I ever completely give up my Chinatown massages?  No.  But when I’m in the mood for something a bit more special than a massage table separated from others by nothing else than tissue paper hanging from the ceiling, I will definitely be checking out the options on Last Minute.  It turns out waiting until the last minute, can, in some instances, pay.

  1. This sounds amazing.. for me to get to some serious spa areas it’s a drive of 30 mins in directions or 60+ mins in another.. but would be worth it to snag some killer spa treatments (time estimates vary based on traffic)

  2. Spas are wonderful things! Over here I’ve never tried for a last minute deal, although we do have a site called lastminute.com that I’ve used for theatre and holiday bookings

Now THAT’S a great tip! I often want something like that but when the thought enters, it registers as a, “I could really use a (fill in the blank) right NOW!” Hope this trends and I find it in other cities soon. Thanks Jess!
