From The Lips Of A Local

Each week we feature a different local, sharing their unique experiences on what makes NYC the best place, ever.  Hey, we never said New Yorkers weren’t cocky.

This week we’re delighted to be chatting with fashion blogger, Monroe Steele!  Featured on fabulous fashion sites such as Elle and Refinery29, her blog features amazing thrift + vintage outfits, and we positively love her style!  She’s the BFF you want by your side during a shopping spree, for sure!

Name: Monroe Steele

Occupation: Fashion Blogger/Physical Therapist

New Yorker since: 2006

What hood do you live in? Harlem

Where do you get your morning coffee? Il Café in Harlem on Lenox. I actually don’t drink coffee too much but I love a good Chai Tea Latte with Whip Cream and a cinnamon stick from Il Café.

Restaurant you’d be really, really sad bordering on clinically depressed if they closedCafetasia close to Washington Square Park. I eat there at least once a week. They have the best Pad Thai and its super cheap. It’s also great for people watching.

Every tourist must visitThe Brooklyn Flea Market. It’s amazing the cool things you can find from jewelry to vintage bottles to clothing. They also have an excellent smorgasborg food selection and a lovely view of New York City from the banks.

NYC trend you’re currently loving/hating: Loving Plaid…hating that its getting too cold to wear just a denim jacket. I hate winter in New York. It’s so hard to be fashionable when you have to wear a bubble coat.

Favorite way to while away a (non-workday!) NYC afternoon: Thrifting and eating! I love walking around the Lower East Side and doing some thrifting.

NYC’s best kept secretCiao Macaroons. It’s divine.
