Where can you go for free live jazz and legit, tasty, $0.92 cocktails without leaving New York, you ask? Why, the fabulous Hotel Chantelle (not really a hotel, btw). Every weekend from noon to five, this retractable-rooftop spot is the place to be, for all that and amazing, decently priced food. Take a peak for yourself:
The Lobster Roll
Truffle Grilled Cheese
…and my very favorite, the frosted flake crusted stuffed french toast, with mascarpone and ricotta stuffing. Exquisite!
The $0.92 cocktail is either the “Strawberry Lime Rickey” or “Easy Passage”, the first a pink little number that packs a punch for under a buck (haven’t tried the latter yet). And if liquor isn’t your thing, they have mimosas, bellinis, and bloody mary’s for $3, which is still quite the steal in this town.
The band is situated in the corner, and will keep you entertained with their crooning and jazzy tunes. I’ve seen both Dandy’s Dixieland Jamboree and Mary Alouette & the Bailsmen, and love, love, loved them both. And check out all the sunshine you’ll be flooded with from the retractable-rooftop! Perfect for year-found brunching.
The place does fill up quickly, so it’s suggested that you make a rezzie ahead of time.
