A most happy 2014, guys!  Now that confetti has been thrown, champagne has been drunk, and there has been plenty of dancing on tables (we hope?!), it’s time to talk about all the great happenings in store for this month!  Here’s a few highlights you should definitely pencil into your calendar now:

Enjoy free admission to Wave Hill cultural center in the Bronx and its 28 acre public garden that overlooks the Hudson River.

Chinese Firecrackers: January 31, 2014

Chinatown Lunar New Year’s Day Firecracker Ceremony has 600,000 rounds of firecrackers to scare away evil spirits and a festival with dancers, singers, and food vendors at Sara Roosevelt Park.

Innovative Theater Festival: January 8-19, 2014

See cutting edge theater from around the world, live and recorded, at Under the Radar.  Some have post-show talks, but always an after-party at The Public.

New York Jewish Film FestivalJanuary 8-23, 2014

Presented by The Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, this global survey of innovative and provocative movies focusing on the Jewish experience is back in 2014 for its 23rd installment. 

NYC Winter Jazzfest: January 11-12, 2014

This winter jazz festival includes 70 groups performing at 6 venues in the Village.  Visit them all with a day pass.

Balkan Festival: January 17-18, 2014

Zlatne Uste Golden Festival is a music and dance festival with 70 bands on 4 stages, vendors of Balkan art and textiles, and Middle Eastern refreshments at Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn.

New York City Ballet Winter 2014 SeasonJanuary 21-March 2, 2014

The season at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater features two world premieres—Liam Scarlett’s New Combinations and Chief Peter Martins’ A La Française. The winter season also includes two George Balanchine full-lengths, Jewels and Copéllia, along with 20 other ballets.

    I would definitely splurge on the New York City Ballet. Sarah Jessica Parker narrated a wonderful mini-series online about the company. It’s a dream to see them perform live in NYC. Can’t wait till me and the kid make it out your way this year. :)

    Let’s see, for this month, we have a nice surprise coming up on our blog soon for everyone! The Theater Festival, Winter Jazzfest and NYC Ballet would interest me. Actually they all sound good. Another great…hold the phone and back up the tour bus. No pants on the subway??!! That’s it…you guys sooooo have to take me on the subway when I finally get there!
