Gillman’s Minivacay With Dogvacay!

{this is a guest post written by my chihuahua Gillman!}

When mommy told me she was going to be working from home this summer, I was stoked!  All day long with my favorite person?!  Could life GET any better?!

Well, don’t take this the wrong way, Mom, but after a few weeks I found myself…how do I put this lightly?  NEEDING  SPACE.  When Mommy works outside of the house I get all day long to nap, but now she’s sneaking me into museums and restaurants and making me walk, like, 10 times a day and I’m just EXHAUSTED.  Doesn’t she know a chichi needs his beauty rest?!

Mommy totally got it, ya know, after I explained the whole “it’s not you, it’s me” thing.  (Compassion is a chihuahua’s middle name, after all.)  She asked if I wanted to go on a mini-vacay with Dogvacay, a website and app that make finding your perfect pet sitter easy as pie!  You can bet your bottom dollar I jumped at the chance!  We perused puppy sitters together until we found the perfect match, Fran.  I liked that her apartment was soaked in sunshine (perfect for my nap, right?!) and mommy liked that her home was pet and kid free (not that I have anything against pets and kids, I just kinda prefer to be the center of attention, ya know?)  Also a huge plus for both of us that the site includes free pet insurance, 24/7 customer support, and photo updates sent to mommy (of moi!) so she can see how much fun I’m having!  A win/win for both of us!

So we booked Fran for a mini-vacay, and here’s how it went down:

Mommy dropped me off in the morning.  I was a little bit nervous at first because, believe it or not, I don’t really stay with anyone except my mommy and grandparents, so this was kinda a huge deal.  In fact, Fran even sent mommy a message along with the pictures to keep her posted on my initial anxiety:

“Hi Jessica, we’re just back from a short walk. The first hour he was a bit agitated but now he’s very relaxed. Sitting on the couch with me right now.”

How awesome is that?!  Meanwhile, while I was taking a stroll, mommy was getting a massage from those Chinese people she likes.  Looks like I wasn’t the only one having a mini-vacay, hey mom!?

Fran texted mommy a photo of me, getting comfortable and used to the space.

Mommy was enjoying comfort food in Hell’s Kitchen.  Not gonna lie, I’m kinnnddaaa upset she didn’t save any of that mac-n-cheese for me!

And finally…the creme de la creme…an un-interuppted nap!  ALL AFTERNOON.  What I’ve been waiting for all summer!

Mommy was enjoying one of those urban hikes she loves (I only love them if I’m being carried, otherwise I pretty much hate walking more than a block at a time!)  It looks like she covered just about all of the theater district (her favorite area!)

At 4pm the doorbell rang…and guess what?!  It was my mommy!  My best friend!  My favorite thing!!!  Of course I made her take, like, 10,000 selfies of us.  Man, I missed her!

I’m a typical dog person! Gosh, cant wait to get back home to cuddle my Max!

  • This is such a cute post! And it’s adorable and hilarious that your dog’s name is Gillman James St. James Bowen III – love it! What a great service. If I had a pup and lived in NYC, I’d definitely use this service. Btw – that mac n’ cheese looks so good!

    • Used York City says:

Aww thanks Dana! They do have services all over the country, so if you ever find yourself getting a pooch, keep it in mind!;-)

Haha and yes: I do appreciate a stoic, LONG name, lol;-)

  • Heather says:

So adorbs! And by the by, I totally love Delta Grill! Used to dine there more often than was good for my waistline :-)

    • Used York City says:

SO GOOD! It was my first time there, and I love the theme (and food, obvs!) I really felt like I was in Louisiana!;-)

  • Tamara says:

Aw! Cutie!! This is such a wonderful idea. One of the things I hesitated about with getting a dog was that I like to get up and go sometimes.
She can come with us a lot, but not always.

    • Used York City says:

Exactly! My guy is so tiny that I can usually take him with, but so good to have a backup plan for those non-dog friendly travel times!:-)

  • Shelley says:

Great guest post Gillman! My mommy likes to travel with me and sneak me into restaurants and cathedrals too. I appreciate that but sometimes I would like to just chill, so the Minivacay sounds like a fantastic idea.

  • natasha says:

Hahaha love this post. I think having mum at home is awesome – more cuddles 😉 and with that cute bag – go for every walk. I would love to travel as such xxxx

    • Used York City says:

Haha, I think having mum at home is awesome too, Natasha! I think he’s warmed up to the idea;-)

  • Phoenix says:

Gillman, I’m with you and need some ME time as well, buddy! Dang I wish my Daddy and I could get back to the East Coast and we could hang out! Plus, maybe you wouldn’t mind if your mommy took me for one of those walks downtown?? Just to say I really was there and did it! I have had lots of good sitters here in Reno who are friends with Dad but none like your mommy has available for the two of you with all of those services! Hey…shhh…a little secret between you and me little dude and don’t tell your mommy. That is just WRONG that she didn’t save any Mac n Cheese for you!! If you ever need to howl, bark or wuff…text me at IAM-YOR-BUDY. High Paw until next time!! *wuff*

    • Used York City says:

Gillman: “Phoenix! My favorite golden retriever! So good to have another canine that gets it! I’ll be programming YOUR digits on speed dial too! (p.s. aren’t our parents the best?!) Thanks for stopping by, P!”

  • Maria Falvey says:

Jess, Gillman is looking fab as always and smart canine he is; that vacay for pooches is wonderful.
I’d like to work there – wow!

    • Used York City says:

      Gills is blushing;-)

Totally agree, Maria, I think it would be great fun to be surrounded by furry friends all day!

  • Richa Saxena says:

Awww…Your Dog is adorable! So Gald you enjoyed your vacation with him :)

  • Scarlett says:

This is SO CUTE. Can he have a vacay at my house? And then stay? Forever? xx

    • Used York City says:

Haha aww Scarlett! Maybe DogVacay should open in the UK and you could be their first doggy host?!:-)

  • Jess says:

Oh my god this is cute. I’m not a dog owner because I’d hate to leave my pooch and I do so much travelling. This is such a great way to give your dog what he needs even when you can’t be there!

    • Used York City says:

Thanks Jess! Yes, I love that I could leave Gills with people that love dogs as much as I do!
