When To Visit NYC Museums For Free

imageAny given day in NYC, there’s a wild amount of culture you could be getting…for absolutely free.  We’ve compiled a list, broken up by day, of where to go to get the most culture for not even a buck.

Monday

Museum at Eldridge Street — Free all day Mondays.

Yeshiva University Museum — Free on Mondays 5-8pm.

Tuesday

Brooklyn Botanic Garden – Free all day on Tuesdays, and Saturdays from 10am-noon. Free on winter weekdays November-February.

Wave Hill – Free all day on Tuesdays, Saturdays 9am-noon.

Wednesday

Museum of Jewish Heritage – Free on Wednesdays 4-8pm.

New York Botanical Garden – Free grounds admission all day on Wednesdays, and Saturdays 10-11am.

Queens Botanical Garden – Free Wednesdays 3-6pm and Sundays 4-6pm. Free during the winter November 1-March 31.

Staten Island Zoo – Free Wednesdays 2-4:45pm.

The Bronx Zoo – Pay what you wish Wednesdays for general admission.

Thursday

Museum of Chinese in America – Free on Thursdays 11am-9pm.

Brooklyn Children’s Museum – Free the third Thursday of every month 3-5pm except during school breaks.

Museum of Arts and Design – Pay what you wish Thursdays 6-9pm.

Children’s Museum of the Arts – Pay what you wish Thursdays 4-6pm.

New Museum – Pay what you wish Thursdays from 6-9pm.

Friday

The Morgan Library & Museum – Free on Fridays 7-9pm.

Museum of Modern Art – Free on Fridays 4-8pm.

Museum of the Moving Image – Free on Fridays 4-8pm.

Rubin Museum of Art – Free on Fridays 6-10pm.

New York Hall of Science – Free September through June on Fridays 2-5pm and Sundays 10-11am.

Asia Society Museum – Free on Fridays 6-9pm Labor Day through June.

Historic Richmond Town – Free Fridays 1-5pm.

Children’s Museum of Manhattan – Free the first Friday of every month 5-8pm.

International Center of Photography – Pay what you wish Fridays 5-8pm.

Whitney Museum – Pay what you wish Fridays 6-9pm.

New York Aquarium – Pay what you wish on Fridays 3pm-closing.

New York Historical Society – Pay what you wish Fridays 6-8pm.

The Noguchi Museum – Pay what you wish first Friday of every month 10am-5pm.

Saturday

Sunday

New York Hall of Science – Free September through June on Fridays 2-5pm and Sundays 10-11am.

Queens Botanical Garden – Free Wednesdays 3-6pm and Sundays 4-6pm. Free during the winter November 1-March 31.

Studio Museum Free Sundays – Free Sundays noon-6pm.
