I love a good dress in the summer. Dresses are lovely to sport any time of the year, but the great thing about rocking one in the summer in NYC is there’s no need to layer with tights underneath and a cardigan on top…which is basically what we have to do during fall, winter, AND spring!
Not only are they super easy to throw on for an elevated look (even if you’re just running errands or playing on the playground like I am most days…they take just as little effort as yoga clothes but look ten times better, I promise!;-), but they’re also easy to style, making the transition easy from daytime to nighttime. Just do a quick change of shoes, add a few bangles or a statement necklace, and swipe on a red lip and your ready for Happy Hour!
We’ve teamed up with Simply Be US on this post to bring a few of our favorite styles to you!
I’m a huge fan of chambray anytime of the year…whether it be in the form of a button down or a shirt dress. It looks just as good paired with Converse and a pair of Aviators during the day as with strappy sandal heels and a low bun for the evening.
Ahh, the maxi. While I typically can’t get away with sporting a maxi during other seasons of the year, I’m all about a flowy one for summer! It screams to be paired with a pair of comfy Birks (or cute sandals, if the hippie look isn’t your thing!), making it perfect for running around during the day, without worrying about flashing any of the other mommies on the playground! It’s an easy swap for evening, by layering on some dainty gold chains around your neck and taking your side braid out for beachy waves.
The Button Down Shirt Dress
The button down shirt dress is light enough to get you through even the hottest of NYC days, but also stylish enough to transition to date night. Simply swap ballet flats for a wedge, and a floppy sun hat for a chic scarf tied around your neck, and you’re good as gold!
The other thing to keep in mind with all these styles is they’re all SO easy to throw into your weekend bag for traveling! They don’t take up much space at all, and you essentially get two outfits for the price (and space) of one! Plus, if you stick within the same color palette, you can make all your shoes and accessories work for them all!
