Spring in the city…is there anything like it? Heavy jackets shoved to the back of the closet until next October, longer evenings filled with sunshine to enjoy a last glass of wine at a sidewalk cafe, the blooms of Central Park. Here’s 5 things I’m so looking forward to enjoying in NYC this spring.
1. Go on a date at the Rum House at the Edison Hotel.
Coined as a “Times Square hideaway straight out of the 1920’s” with live music sets every night, Mr. P and I can’t wait to put on our Sunday best for a night on the town, complete with crooning and crafty cocktails.
2. Watch some amazing international films at the 13th Annual Bosnian Herzegovinian Film Festival.
My husband is Bosnian, and I’ve taken a great interest in the annual BHFF for YEARS, since our dating days. This year I’m delighted to be taking an even more active role in the festival, and have been working behind the scenes with the team in New York. Such a wonderful group of people, and the selection of films is going to be a real treat, I promise. If you’re into international films (or have a desire to learn more about the film industry in the Balkans), we’d LOVE to have you join us at the screenings, happening Memorial Day weekend!
3. Attend a rehearsal at the New York City Ballet.
You’ll probably remember my praise of the NYCID and how it gives such fantastic cultural access to any and every New Yorker for FREE, yes? Well, one of the things I am most excited to take advantage of with my ID card is to attend a rehearsal of the ballet. Honestly, it appeals to me even more than the ACTUAL ballet, because there’s something so raw and real about watching a behind the scenes glimpse of what the dancers do to get ready for showtime. Plus, I just think that ballerinas are the greatest athletes out there, and it’s absolutely fascinating to me to watch them fly across the stage with such grace.
4. Start a “semester” of Music + Movement classes with Augusten.
Now that little man has hit 4 months, he’s napping (a little) less and enjoys more interactive activities throughout the day. Music is pretty much his favorite, so I signed us up for a weekly music and movement class for babies and their mamas at Blooming Bebe, which take us from mid-April to the beginning of June. So excited to see how he likes it!
5. Spend time in a Himalayan salt room.
I first heard about salt rooms on my doula’s Instagram (side note: if you’re pregnant and looking for a doula, she’s the BEST!) I was immediately curious and did some research of my own, and was quite intrigued with what I read. You enter the room with a relaxation mindset, take deep breaths, and micro-particles of pure white salt are dispersed into the air, entering your airways to naturally cleanse and detoxify your lungs, sinuses and air passages. So cool, right?
I’ll be sure to report back on my little adventures! In the meantime, do share, what are you most looking forward to this spring?
p.s. in case you missed it, here’s last year’s spring to-do list! still need to take that Scottish dancing class;-)
