5 Ways To Use Your (NY) City

No Pants On The Subway

Happy 2018!!! I hope you all had the best time throwing all the confetti and drinking all the champagne! Now on to the fun stuff, like New Year’s Resolutions and gym time, right? Speaking of resolutions (or intentions, I like that word a bit better), does anyone have any fun ones they’re working towards this year? I signed up for a yoga teacher training class which starts this weekend, and I’m absolutely ecstatic! Not that I necessarily even want to teach, but yoga is something I’ve done pretty regularly in my 12 years since I’ve been in NYC, so I’m excited to deepen my practice a bit and carve out time to study and learn. Kinda like going back to school;-) I’ll be sure to provide occasional updates on my yoga journey on Instagram, so follow along! In the meantime, I’ve corralled a few favorites below for you to add to your NYC agenda!

NYC Free Activity To DoHoliday Train Show at Grand Central (Although this technically says “holiday”, that really only means that it’s up during the winter time of the year, there’s nothing especially holiday about it. Earlier in December we took Augusten to the train show at the NY Botanical Gardens, which was absolutely lovely, but also expensive. This scaled down version was actually much more his speed, as it wasn’t as overwhelming…and it’s FREE. We spent an hour, easy, looking at the trains. Even if you just get a few minutes out of it, it’s a beautiful little exhibit that both adults and kids can enjoy while passing through Grand Central. It’s up through February 4th, 2018.)

NYC Book To ReadNew York Haiku (The sweetest little book of poetry, written by regular folks about the city we love, that will get you through the winter months. I have it sitting on my bedside table and love reading one little haiku before bed.)

NYC Restaurant To EatSunday in Brooklyn (Located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we went here for brunch a few weekends ago and just fell in love. Between the simple Scandi-inspired decor to the food, everything was spot on. I got the warm oatmeal with goat milk butter and raisins, followed by the maple cheddar biscuit, and highly recommend both!)

NYC Spectacle To SeeNo Pants On The Subway (While you can certainly choose to participate in this as well, seeing it may be amusement enough! This Sunday, January 7th, from 3pm to 5pm, jump on the subway and you might just get *lucky* enough to see hoards of people riding pantless! The event is hosted by Improv Everywhere, is free, and is sure to make for some hysterical photos and stories.)

NYC Outdoor Art Exhibit To Photograph: Sea of Light (This is an immersive sensory art and light installation activated by movement and sound, located at the South Street Seaport. It’s a unique winter experience, perfect to enjoy with a hot cup of hot cider during these dark, dark evenings of ours. Although, if you have a toddler like us, you can also go and enjoy it at 9am!;-) The exhibit is up every day through March 2018, and is absolutely free.)
