Jess’s Picks For Escaping Within NYC!

We’re currently on our summer family vacation in the gorgeous countries of Bosnia and Croatia, so I’ll be taking a short hiatus from the blog and will be back with fresh new content to kick off the new school year* on Labor Day!  (*Ok, I know I’ve been out of school for the longest, but doesn’t September always remind you of back to school outfits and freshly sharpened pencils?!)

In the meantime, I thought I’d share some of my favorite ways to escape within NYC, in case you need a little inspiration to use your city for these last few weeks of the season!

Jess’s Picks For Escaping Within NYC!

Activities: Rent a Citibike and cruise up along the Hudson River, stopping for drinks at Pier i Cafe, and ending with lunch at the New Leaf restaurant in Ft. Tryon Park in Inwood.  Take a walk around the Heather Gardens and peak into the Cloisters while you’re there.  Entrance is free with your IDNYC.

Outdoor Bars: Frying Pan, because not only is it outdoors, it’s on a vintage boat in the Hudson River, which you are free to explore, drink in hand.

Things to do with Babies: Music in Central Park with Andy and Suzanne.  Bring a blanket and prepare to jam out on guitar to some of your childhood favorites…props included!

Culture: The Museum of the City of New York for their wonderful NYC exhibits…I really loved “Lost In Old New York” and “In The South Bronx of America”.  Again, this one is free with your IDNYC!

Food: Ample Hills Creamery for their Ooey Gooey Cake Batter on a Pretzel Cone, for when it’s just too hot to eat anything else…!

Spas: #TreatYoSelf to a day at The Peninsula Spa in Midtown, complete with a rooftop sundeck for catching summer rays and the most relaxing Relaxation Room you ever did experience.

Fitness: Free yoga classes twice a week at Bryant Park.

Places To Relax In The AC: The brand spankin’ new NYPL located on 53rd Street between 5th and 6th is gorgeous and boasts plenty of room to sit with a good book and outlets for working on your laptop.  And yes, plenty of AC pumping.

Books: The Swans of 5th Avenue by Melanie Benjamin.  All about the glamorous and scandalous lives of Truman Capote and his gorgeous clan of gals.

Podcasts: Happier by Gretchen Rubin, where she gives upbeat tips and strategies for leading your happiest life.

Have a wonderful rest of the summer, and I look forward to seeing you back here on Labor Day!  Make sure to follow along with our travel adventures on Instagram, and to share how YOU’RE enjoying your summer with the hashtag #UsedYorkCity!
