My Visit To The NY Institute Of Aromatherapy!

I’ve been getting more into natural remedies as I’m getting older better (haha, like what I did there?;-), so when a girl from my yoga class asked if I’d be interested in checking out the New York Institute of Aromatherapy, I was like, “Umm, of course!”

The actual center is a small storefront in the East Village, where you can both take classes to become certified in aromatherapy as well as purchase a myriad of oils and goodies.  I went on a day that student clinics were being offered, meaning that for $10, I got to sit down with a student at the tail end of their training and tell them the issue I would like to work out, talk it out for a bit, and then watch as s/he created a personalized (and delicious smelling) product for me.

My “issue” was wanting to craft a scent which would improve my energy/focus levels.  While I typically start the day on a chipper level, I tend to be pretty much wiped out by the time 7pm roles around which is when my hubby gets home to take over his Augusten-shift, and I can start my writing projects.  Obviously I don’t want to brew a pot of coffee, because staying up all night isn’t ideal, either, so a non-caffeinated solution would be mighty appreciated.

After I did some smelling of scents and picked which did and didn’t resonate with me, my teacher-in-training created a spray for me, which can be used as a room spray or a more concentrated spray to put onto a cotton ball and inhale as needed.  It contained lemongrass, rosemary, vetiver, and bergamot and honestly smells incredible.  I’ve been using it all week, and while it could totally be my overly energetic mind playing tricks on me, I really do feel more focused!  I’ll give it a few more weeks, and if I’m still convinced, I’ll share the “secret recipe” with you guys in another post;-)

Here’s to an energized and focused 2017!

Now that’s fun! I think I could even have handled this when pregnant – when some scents bothered me. I love pleasing ones, and I really believe in aromatherapy.

Me too! My sense of smell is (weirdly) my strongest sense, so depending on the aroma of a place/thing I can get instantly drawn in or turned off!
