Today I’m happy to welcome to the blog Jess Santini, Digital Content Manager by day and Lifestyle Blogger at Big City Little Blog by night. Jess has been a New Yorker for 5 years, and currently calls the Financial District home. She’s a huge fan of her neighborhood, because in addition to being close to the water and the Seaport District, she has a perfect view of Lady Liberty from her rooftop.
What is your favorite way to #TreatYoSelf in the city?
I’m a huge foodie, so treating myself generally consists of enjoying some fabulous new flavors. My favorite thing is to find a barely known restaurant with a cool atmosphere and great food. New York is the perfect city for exploring new cuisines!
When do you most often utilize this treat?
Usually on the weekends or when my husband has a day off. He works in the culinary industry, so he often works long and strange hours. This is something that we have a lot of fun doing together, and it’s a great break from the daily grind.
Would you consider this treat to be budget friendly, a sensational splurge, or somewhere in the middle?
It really depends on where we’re going! Generally, we like to find small, inexpensive neighborhood gems, such as Dominique Bistro. In my opinion, there is no correlation between the cost of the restaurant and the quality of the food- at least not in New York. Having said that, every know and then we’ll dress up to have a “bougie” dining experience.
It seems to be a trend that #TreatYoSelf days tend to come when there is either something to celebrate or when you need a pick-me-up. In the case of the latter, what words of encouragement would you give a New Yorker who is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day?
I would say not to worry because we all have them. Adulting is hard, and #TheStruggleIsReal! I think they key is to surround yourself with inspiring beings. Lean on your friends and family and make sure that those people always have your best interest at heart. And if all else fails, do something to spoil yourself- whether that’s a nice meal, a massage, or a little weekend getaway.
