Although I love exploring new places (as you can see from trying 75 new restaurants in one year–you’ll find this spot on there!), it’s comforting to have tried and true places where you can go and know exactly what you’ll order and how much you’ll love it. The ultimate in comfort eating, right?
My husband and I have long been fans of Il Gattopardo, nestled in a historic townhouse on West 54th Street. We live in the neighborhood, so while convenience may have been our first draw to this spot, what kept us coming back was the delicious food and white glove service (seriously, the staff here is so accommodating and friendly, we just love them!) And as new(ish) parents, it really helps to have a place close by we can go to for a quick date night, when we only have a sitter for an hour or so.
The restaurant’s executive Chef Vito Gnazzo has recently unveiled his new Spring + Summer menus just in time for the warm weather, and we were delighted to check it out…you can see some of the dishes we tried and loved here. In my humble opinion, it’s some of the best, not to mention authentic, southern Italian fine dining you’ll find in the city!
One of the reasons we love this spot so is the variety of spots you can dine. On this particular evening, we sat in the main formal dining room (because we were dressed up for date night, of course!), but you can also dine in the beautiful downstairs, which looks up to a glass ceiling and you can see all the sparkling lights of Manhattan. Or you can opt for garden seating if the weather is agreeable (we love this during the summer months!),or there’s been several nights we’ll dash over for a quick glass of prosecco and their delectable warm chocolate cake, snuggled into the small bar alcove, complete with books and candlelight.
In addition to dinner and dessert, you can also join them on Saturdays for live jazz and bossa nova music with your brunch from 11:30 to 3pm.
Let me know if you go, and if you love it just as much as we do! I think you will;-)
