Today I’m happy to welcome to the blog Dan McEntee, a student at Pace University. He’s lived in the Financial District for the past two years, but has called NYC home ever since he was a kid. He’s also the force behind the Instagram SubwayShenanigans, which documents all the crazy/wild/touching moments one might see on their daily commute.

What is your favorite way to #TreatYoSelf in the city?

My favorite way to #TreatYoSelf in NYC is definitely the food, entertainment, and fresh walks. There is an endless amount of amazing food here and I plan to try and consume as much of it as possible. My favorites are Momofuku Milk Bar and Empanada Mama. As far as entertainment, spending money and treating myself to a concert or Broadway show is always worthy of the expense. Walks in NYC are always so fun and calming. Wherever I am I can take time to reflect and ease my mind with beautiful buildings surrounding me on every side.

When do you most often utilize this treat?

I take walks every day. I think it is important to get yourself outside even if it is just a stroll down the avenue. This helps me stay active and sane. Walks help my mind stay fresh and engaged.

Would you consider this treat to be budget friendly, a sensational splurge, or somewhere in the middle?

Walks are definitely budget friendly considering they costs nothing!!! Treating myself to food would be somewhere in the middle. Entertaining myself with music or theatre could be somewhere in the middle and also a sensational splurge here and there.

It seems to be a trend that #TreatYoSelf days tend to come when there is either something to celebrate or when you need a pick-me-up. In the case of the latter, what words of encouragement would you give a New Yorker who is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day?

My words of encouragement would be: If you are having a bad day, take time to remember all of the good things in your life and the things you are thankful for. Literally make a list in your head of all of the amazing aspects of your life. Remember them. Everything else that is making your day “bad” doesn’t matter. Keep those positive thoughts. A positive mindset creates a positive life.

Thank you so much for joining us on the blog today, Dan, and sharing your favorite way to use your city on a #TreatYoSelf day!
